A Dog Named Diesel

A Story about a Dog Named Diesel

Published on April 29, 2025 by Texas Border Tours

Hi there! My name’s Diesel, and I’m a big, strong dog who lives at the ranch on the border. I’m part Anatolian and part Bull Mastiff, which means I’m a guardian at heart. My name comes from my friend Raul, who works with diesel fuel and other cool stuff. Some folks say I look a bit scary with my big size and deep bark, but don’t worry—I’m a gentle giant who loves making new friends, especially kids like you!

I’ve been protecting the ranch since I was a tiny pup. It’s in my blood to keep an eye on things! I love trotting along the horse trails with my horse buddies, like Diamond and Ghost. My favorite game is chasing jack rabbits—they’re so fast, but I’m faster! I also make sure no stray dogs get too close to the horses. I give one big, loud bark, and they scamper away. My bark is so deep it echoes across the fields, especially at night when I’m guarding the front gate.

When it’s hot, I hunt for puddles of water to splash in. Oh, it feels so good to cool off! I flop down in the mud, wiggle around, and get my fur all wet. Sometimes I even roll over just to make sure I’m extra cool. The horses think I’m silly, but I know they’re jealous of my puddle parties!

At night, I’m the ranch’s superhero. I patrol the property, sniffing the air and listening for anything out of place. If I hear a strange noise, I let out my big bark—it’s so loud it can be heard miles away! It keeps all the sneaky strays out of our home. But when I’m not patrolling, I like to lay by the front gate, looking up at the stars. They twinkle like little treats in the sky, and I wonder if they taste as good as my favorite bones.

So, if you visit the ranch, come find me, Diesel! I might look big and tough, but I’ll give you a gentle nudge and wag my tail to say hello. Maybe we can chase a rabbit together or splash in a puddle. I’m the guardian of the ranch, but I’m also the best friend you’ll ever meet. See you soon!
